Legal Framework & State Restrictions
The resale of unused, unexpired over-the-counter diabetic supplies is legal in most US states. However, some states have specific restrictions on certain categories — particularly CGM sensors and insulin pump supplies that may be classified differently. We currently cannot buy from California, Nevada, or Wisconsin.
About Prescription Items
Some diabetic supplies — particularly CGM sensors and insulin pump components — may be classified as prescription medical devices in certain states. National Diabetic Exchange currently focuses on over-the-counter categories (test strips, lancets, and accessories). For categories that may require prescription status verification, our system checks state regulations automatically and will notify you if a product cannot be accepted in your location.
Regulatory Framework
At the federal level, the resale of unused OTC medical devices (including most diabetic test strips) is not prohibited. State-level regulation varies. National Diabetic Exchange monitors regulatory changes across all 50 states and updates our compliance systems accordingly. We are not a pharmacy and do not dispense prescription medications.
